Description
The Lung Insert: Ultrasound-Guided Tumor Biopsy is an interchangeable insert designed for use with the Lung Phantom.
The insert contains six simulated tumors in three different sizes: two 20 mm tumors, two 13 mm tumors, and two 6 mm tumors. The tumors are positioned at different depths and in varying anatomical locations, providing different challenges for ultrasound-guided targeting.
The insert includes four ribs, lung tissue, and a pleural layer, all visible on ultrasound. Some tumors are positioned beneath the ribs, while others are located freely between the ribs. The tumors also vary in their relationship to the pleura, with some positioned directly against the pleural layer and others located within the lung tissue.
This variation allows trainees to practice identifying the target on ultrasound, selecting an appropriate needle trajectory, and coordinating ultrasound imaging with needle movement. The insert is designed to support the development of hand-eye coordination, procedural precision, and confidence in ultrasound-guided biopsy procedures.
The interchangeable design allows the insert to be easily installed in the Lung Phantom as part of its modular training system.
